This rainwater tank was neglected for over 25 years. As you can see the build up of sediment has greatly affected the quality of water. To prevent this from happening to your tank, make sure you get your tank cleaned every two to four years.
If your tank is full and you do not want to lose the water, vacuuming the floor will remove the sediment leaving the bulk of the water behind. This will ensure that the water that remains will be crystal clear and of a high quality.

Over time sediment builds up on the walls. When a full clean is done, the walls are cleaned as well as the floor to eliminate as much of the sediment build up as possible.

This video shows how effective a good clean is to remove sediment from a water tank.
